Welcome to the online home of Chára Nagle Fine
Art. After her sensational sell out debut exhibition
in 2007, and the follow-up in 2008, Chára Nagle
has been heralded and acclaimed as ‘one of the
country’s most exciting talents’ in Ireland. Over
three grueling and disciplined years later, the
artist unveiled her latest exhibition last December in
Dublin, Ireland. The fruits of a ground breaking
challenge in the history of art with a subject that has
defied the greatest painters through the ages – the
portrait of a horse.
With unrivalled skill and genius, the artist’s
new collection defies all traditions of equine
pictorial representation by making the horse itself
form the dominant subject of her canvas. The artist
has redefined the meaning of the word ‘portrait’
in the genre of equine portraiture – the horse
is more important than the humans or the landscape
that surrounds it.
When asked to define her style, Chára uses just
two descriptors – bold and beautiful. The truth
is the artist has developed a new aesthetic of
romantic realism formulated and mastered from
the greatest artists of the Renaissance, Baroque,
Romantic and Impressionist periods of art. Taken
to dizzyingly high standards of technique, Chára
combines a classical naturalist realism of form
and proportion with a romantic celebration of
colour and life, never achieved before in the
history of art. The essence of her work reflects
a deep understanding of a moment in time. Whether
it is the split second when the woman finally
gives in and he is allowed to kiss her , or the
moment when the stallion, Teofilo, steps into
to the light standing stoically in all of his
natural glory, the artist has spotted it and painted
it.
